Haymaking
Witherslack Estate are delighted to announce we have been successful in our application for FIPL funding to purchase small scale haymaking equipment to better manage the species rich grasslands of the Estate. We will now be able to ‘shut up’ our orchards and grasslands throughout summer to allow wildflowers and grasses to bloom and set seed. The removal of the hay will take away nutrients and maintain the optimum conditions needed for these species.
As part of the project we will be sharing the equipment at cost with other local landowners and managers working to enhance biodiversity on their own patch. Please get in touch with lydia@witherslackestate.co.uk if you would like to be part of the scheme
